mala de viagem: poder de sintese (inverno)

Semana que vem vou para o Brasil de ferias e tenho que arrumar a mala pra mim e pra minha filhuca de 4 anos.
Modestia super a parte eu sou oootema em arrumar malas. Uma vez passei uma semana a trabalho em Madrid com um trolley daqueles que vc leva na cabine. Tudo bem que era verao mas gente, estava a trabalho. Consegui enfiar tudo na malinha.
Eu tenho uma lista geral e dela procuro tirar os items de acordo com a estaçao do ano, levo em conta se poderei lavar roupas ou nao e ai comeco a colocar os itens desejados sobre a cama.
Para o inverno levaria: 2 jeans, 1 calca preta, 1 saia, 1 vestido. Agora que estou viciada em leggings levo tambem duas leggings. Para cada parte de baixo levo dois tops (de manga curta ou comprida, dependendo do destino). O melhor eh colocar as pecas sobra a cama para combinar as cores/estilos entre si. Se vc tem dificuldade de escolher entre dois tops leve aquele que combina com mais calcas/saias/leggings.
Uma jaqueta mais pesada, um cardigan de cor neutra.
Sapatos: uma bailarina, uma bota, um tenis de passeio, Havaianas, um sapato de salto,(eu levo tambem tenis para corrida mas nao eh um must).
Acessorios:aqui me esbaldo, por que um acessorio pode mudar toda uma roupa e eles nao ocupam muito lugar. Entao levo pelo menos duas pashminas(3,4), um cinto marrom e um preto,brincos,colares, broches...
Roupas de baixo: uma pra cada dia, se for ficar mais de uma semana leve 7 e lave no banho ne.
Higiene & Maquiagem: sabonete para o rosto, tonico, hidratante, base, batom e lapis preto. O resto gosto de comprar no free-shop ou no destino hihi. Procuro colocar meus produtos em embalagens pequenas para viagem tipo essas da Sephora.
Na bolsa de mao: uma troca de roupas, pasta com documentos e passagens, dinheiro, cartao, camera, celular, escovas de dente e de cabelo, mini-perfume, lencos umedecidos, 2 toalhinhas magicas.
Ultima dica: faca escova antes do voo,vc vai acordar mais digna.

Na caixa tem uma mistura para pancake, a garrafinha branca eh do caramelo e a outra com jeitinho vintage eh do extrato de baunilha.

Costurinhas: 3 camisetas brancas, mas diferentes

Fiz tres blusas usando como base camisetas brancas. Juro que ficaram muito melhores que as fotos.
Na primeira apliquei uma doillie de croche que a Diana me trouxe do Paraguay, na segunda pintei um coracao grande sob a manga com a ajuda da minha filhuca. A terceira foi a que teve mais costura, destrui a manga e cortei a bainha em angulo. Com a malha que sobrou fiz tiras que costurei no decote e na frente com linhas de cores diferentes. Ajustei todas atras para dar um caimento melhorzinho.
Fiquei feliz com o resultado e ja usei todas.

Eu nao uso sacolas plasticas de supermercado ha uns 3 anos. Ou melhor, tento muuuito nao usar. As vezes faco comprinhas inesperadas e nao tenho nenhuma eco-bag comigo mas eh raro, sempre tenho uma na bolsa.
Essa bolsinha xadrez foi uma das primeiras coisas que fiz depois do curso de costura que fiz no inverno e ainda nao tinha fotografado. As alcas foram feitas a partir de um cintinho que cortei de uma blusa :)

Fiz uma blusinha tipo tie dye inspirada nesse blog e na colecao S/S 2010 da Proenza Schouler (que nao eh uma mulher e sim uma marca pessoas).
Eh facinho:
1 - pegue uma blusa que vc meio que enjoou amarre a dita como na foto
2 - coloque agua sanitaria numa bisnaga dessas tipo de catchup de lanchonete, nao precisa muito porque o liquido se espalha e eh preciso dosar
3 - respingue a agua sanitaria na camiseta aleatoriamente
4 - quando quiser parar o processo de embranquecimento simplesmente enxague com agua corrente
5 - lave normalmente (depois de ter certeza que o excesso de agua sanitaria foi todo removido, para nao manchar outras roupitchas)

Eu tinha esse lindo pullover cinza mas nao o usava muito porque era um ... isso - pullover.
Peguei a tesoura e abri a parte que ficava presa e a costurei para dentro, mudei o botao decorativo e o tic-tac de lugar e voila. Meu pullover virou um maxi-cardigan super usavel.

Essas duas bolsas foram feitas a partir de duas camisetas mal-amadas. Elas sao otimas como bolsas de compra (nos nao usamos plastico, nananan) ou pra praia, pique-nique. Sao facilimas de fazer, veja o PAP do Crafty Nest.
Eu ainda quero adicionar um lacinho em cada uma para amarrar e lava-las fechadinhas na bolsa, sem ocupar espaco. Corra pra maquina e faca agooora.
Nao costura nada? Tem aqui como fazer uma sem costurar, o video da Adi Dori eh em hebraico mas da pra entender tudo so pelas imagens.

Esse ai eh a Nashi a cobrinha que eu fiz para a baby girl semana passada.
Juntei algumas meias velhinhas,cortei o pe fora e passei uma costura rapida na maquina e enchi com retalhos e enchimento sintetico.
Eu queria bordar os olhinhos, nariz e boca mas a minha cliente pediu que eu os desenhasse. Desenhei com caneta a prova d'agua e o resultado nao ficou sofisticado mas a cliente aprovou e dorme com ela toda noite :)

Esta blusinha foi feita tmabem a partir de uma camiseta comum. Cortei o colarinho e costurei uma fita de seda no lugar. Na frente coloquei um tic-tac para poder tirar o lacinho na hora de lavar. Ficou legal e ninguem tem igual. Minhas fotos nao fazer justica as minhas criacoes.

Nao ando costurando tanto quanto queria mas, tambem nao ando postando nada.
Pretendo melhorar nos dois quesitos. Afinal eh carnaval e prometo botar meu bloco na rua.
Aqui vai uma das minhas ultimas invencoes: um vestido de malha feito de duas camisetas. A camiseta usada em cima esta inteira, ja a que usei para a saia foi cortada bem abaixo da cava das mangas, em linha reta e virou uma saia. Costurei na maquina e acrescentei uma rendinha no decote. Ficou fofo.
A parte cortada da camiseta preta vai virar um casaqueto, ainda em fase de execucao.
A foto esta uma josta mas juro que o vestido eh legalz.

I'm very happy to announce that my living room is finally taking shape. It's taking little baby steps but it's a progress.
I have some art work on the walls: mine, Tarsila, some Brazilian naif, native brazilian art; new curtains (that together with the old ones brought up the brown pattern in them). I hanged also some botanic prints in the corridor which gave it some light.
I moved some furniture around the house also. Emly's chest of drawers was moved to my bedroom and my linen drawers are now used as bedside table (leaving Emly's more room for play). I hanged a shoe organizer outside Emly's wardrobe within her reach, rearranged her mirror and hanged three more toy organizers.
It all looks good and I'm proud of myself...
Next projects:
- installing Emly's vinil floor
- making the cork board for the kitchen
- making the guest room futon base (wood pallets)
- buying the rest of shelving for the dining area + living and installing them...

I have a wallpaper obsession. I really feel like having some walls covered in beautiful wallpapers but we just don't have the nice ones available in Israel and if we find they they're incredibly pricey.
I was so jealous (good jealousy) when I saw the wallpapers below on Design * Sponge (see link on the right).
The ones in the pics are from Barbara Hulanicki and Graham and Brown.

recycling - re-use CD dispenser

The other day we cleared an office that was vacant for some time and found around 12 of those CD dispensers, you know, the large ones with 50 CDs in it. The people that used the office before were working in a project that used lots of CDs and the empty dispensers were left behind when they finished.
I took them home with me since I had some ideas of how to re-use them:
- twine dispenser
- electric cords organizer
- vacuum cleaner hose holder (will need two)
- ribon organizer
- planter (use only the top and make holes in the bottom)
The rest of them I'm taking to my little girl's kindengarten, they love to play with this kind of things.
It feels good to re-use something instead of just tossing it (they don't recycle in Israel). Here is the result of my recycling adventure ;)

decorative tape will save the day!

I saw decorative tape in a store in Brazil before but the design was a little childish, not in a kawaii way, so I didn't buy it.
A couple of weeks ago I read a post at SuperZiper (link on the left) suggesting many uses for the decorative tape and they had really cute designs too. I got jealous but I finally found them in a little shop in Gedera ( my small city in Israel). I bought the cherry stamped one, really cute, and became addicted.
I luv it now and whenever a see something a little blund looking I snatch the tape and ta-dam! The boring looking plastic box is now cute cherry decorated box!

Yesterday I took one of my many notebooks (too many but at least they are from recycled paper) from my bag and it looked like a rag... So I took a piece of Scotch Magic Tape (the transparent/matte one) and decorated it with black permanent marker. I fixed the borders of the notebook with the tape and voila! I have my own deco tape now.
Something just ocurred to me: maybe I can stamp the Magic Tape with my hand made stamps...

Yeah baby! The new Ikea catalog is available and will be delivered to my home soon. I can't wait. I made six stamps! I made only very simple designs on simple erasers but the result was so cute I'm totally hooked. I learned a basic carving technique reading some blogs (don't ask me which, I don't remember), took a craft knife and made them. I don't have the right tools yet but I'll ge them because I loved the result and I'm making big plans now...OOhh the plans I have in this little head...

I am working on mood pages to work as guidelines for my home decoration. I've been back in Israel for 1 year and five months now and I haven't done much with the house decor, only the essential really.
Last week I was very proud to have my laundry area organized and even my little girl noticed it. She said it looks nice...
The kitchen really bothers me but I need to organize our home office first because we use it a lot and it's getting out of hand now.
I got some inspiration from Decor8, style-files, DeCoeurAcao and other blogs I like and you can find the link on the right hand side on your screen.

flea market - Yaffo

The flea market visit was good but not great. I am into "old stuff" for a while (10 years +-) and I have a little experience but that evening anyone could tell the prices were tourist prices, not for bargain people like myself...
I saw a lot of good things but the place was too crowded and I ended up going home empty handed. It's Ok, now I know were the good things are and I'm certainly going back, during the day and without all those tourists and street musicians around. Nothing against tourists and street musicians but bargain hunting is a serious thing!

Tonight I'm finally going to visit the flea market in Yaffo/Tel Aviv. I've been planning to go there for years so I finally will.
In the flea market mood this week I did something for the first time: I picked a couple of chairs on the street.
Someone threw out 4 beautiful 50's chairs, two were a little damaged and I didn't have room in the trunk anyway but two were perfect and I took them!
They are now sitting in my office and i decided I'm gonna try and bleach the wood ( or at least stripe the dark varnish) and get a nice fabric for the new upholstering. I'll post some fabric ideas below. The flower one with white background is from a shop here is Israel and the four little samples are from JCAroline Creative. Whadayathink?

After flirting with the idea of having a colorful home I decided I like the white walls better. I decided that it suits better my whole look (or intended look) to have white walls and color accents.

Yea, I agree and I feel bad that's how ai feel also. I have lots of plans but the daily routine of little things keeps me from getting to "it". How will I manage to do more than just work-home chores ? How are there people that are so organized, keep their eye-on- the ball that they manage to raise kids, keep the house livable, work full time and have time for themselves. This is what I'd like to learn. So far the decoration is put aside, the crafts are in the box and I feel I'm not doing enough of what I want. Not a very positive post but, that's what's gong on lately...

I started this blog because after so long I finally made the time to start making my crafts again.
I always made stuff, for as long as I can remenber, I remember making Barbie's clothes, beach bags, clothes customization, jewelry.But my life has changed so much, I moved countries, got married, had a baby, changed jobs and career paths.
It hasn't been boring but I must admit I kind of lost track of my real passions along the way, or maybe, as I told many people I wanted to be free from the things I was so sure about when I was just 18. I wanted to try new things, so I went. I left the humanities and went for a career in High Tec.It was good money, poor quality of life, the status wasn't important for me. Everybody thought I was living the life and I felt like crap.I quit.
I chose a more laid back job, technical writer and that gives me freedom to live, raise my baby and not "work all-the-time". I feel I need to follow my creativity call, go back to when my ideas flowed free and became art works and this is when the blog came in. I started getting very inspired by bloggers, designers, craftists from all over via internet and this is where I stand now. But I want more...
My goals: make more time for my crafts, organize my supplies, buy more supplies, try to find a personal style. Then maybe, only maybe this can become a second income...One that will give real pleasure.

I heard someone saying a while ago that you shouldn't trust someone who doesn't have a hobby. At the time I found the sentence a little rough but it stayed in the back of my mind. I started to pay attention to this detail in people's personalities and well... I'm not judging but ...All I want to say is that having a hobby is a healthy thing ad everyone should find something that they are passionate about aside from work, eating and sleeping.

It's a hard job to be blogger...I work full time and even tough it's not a crazy-busy environment like some other places I worked before when I get home I have other stuff i my mind+ baby Emly+ home maintenance+crafts waiting list+my books...
By the time I finish a craft and like the result I don't have any time or energy left to post it!
I can tell you tough that lately I made 3 candle holders (Fimo), 2 small bowls ( DAS - not painted yet) and one black little box (Fimo), finished another t-shirt but the pics, the pics woman...
Anyway as soon as I have the [pics downloaded I'll edit this post and show it all to you.

customized shirts

I just made a few customized shirts that I wrote about last week.

the light gray one has white buttons of different kinds sewn on the left side and sleves, square neck line.
The red one has ribons of different colors sewn on the left side.
The white one has a cotton lace I brought from Brazil highlighting the square neck line.

I went to Jerusalem for the weekend and only today had time to download the pics.Maybe I should do another blog only about my trips in Israel... Anyway, I'm back.
Today I'm posting a pic of a formula can I kept from when Emly was a baby. I painted it and use it to keep her hair brushes,she loves it.
This is my way of being creative and giving another use to a perfectly good metal can, that otherwise would be trown out. In Israel they still don't do "selective disposal", which is crazy right?

first hand inspiration from second hand shop

There are a few nice shops in my little town, Gedera, but one of my favorites is "Yad Shnyia",which means second hand in Hebrew. They sell second hand clothes, some good vintage stuff, kitchenware, pictures, accessories and also books.
They also sell new clothes which I really love but I love to go there even if I don't need anything just to get some inspiration. I love looking at the oldfashioned colors, patterns, old pictures, record covers.
This afternoon we're having a "Shavuot Happening" in the historic street where the shop is located. They usually have booths with hand crafts, ceramics, small decoration items for the home and for kids rooms, fashion accessories.
The Biluim street is closed for traffic so parking can get a little difficult but it's really nice. See you there...

embroidery, fabric

I coulnd't post anything these last few days because I was lacking the photos to do it. Certain issues just can't go without an image and I didn't have the time to do it (I do have a day job you know!).
I am making the cutest shirts for myself but they're not finished yet. I'll post them as soon as I finish and get them clicked, downloaded, uploaded ...
Just to fill in some blog space I'll post a bath towel I embroidered for my daughter freehand using fishbone, long and short stitches.
I got really inspired lately browsing some of my favorite blogs and looking at the fabrics and stationery ideas. so many talented people out there! Where are the creative people in Israel? Anyone out there doing hand crafts, hand prints. Hello?

dad's birthday

weekend in Netanya, bad style good food

I spent this weekend in Netanya and loved it. The beach is great the promenade beautiful and you really feel like you're somewhere else.(Everybody speaks French there! Hebrew is the second language. The food was Moroccan?!)
The hotel decor again doesn't deserve a mention but the room was renovated lately and the staff very "gentil" as they say ... The reception hall was ok, confortable but without style. Miles away from the horrid hotel in Zikron from last week though.
Posting a pic of Netanya for you to have an idea.
Regarding my box for the sun glasses, well I'll abandon that since the result isn't what I was looking for. I want something with a better finish than I can give it and I don't want to compromise. The can alluminum is a material I'm not used to and I don't have tools to work it better.

It's not fair that I posted about someone whose work I just found out and didn't write about Galit and her ceramics.
Galit is a dear friend of mine, ceramist, craftist, creative mother of 6. (Yes, can you believe that?)
Apart from being a great kind person she is also very talented. She makes huge wall sculptures of butterflies (a recurring theme for her) as well as ceramic bowls, tiles, plates and she puts her signature to everything around her, even her car...
Here is a pic of a bowl I bought from her and that sits on my dinner table.

I posted here that I'd try to make a box for my sun glasses out of a beer can. Yes, I made it. Or well, I started it. I bought a nice Heineken long can and cut it on the top.
It was quite easy to cut it but the cut isn't straight.. but I can fix that once I put the zipper on.
I'll post a photo as soon as it's finished.

I am currently in a non-cook mood. I loved cooking but lately I just don't feel like it. I got sick of my own cooking but a friend of mine told me it's a phase. "This too shall pass."
I still like the cooking shows on TV, cook books and specially kitchen stuff.
There is one place I really love in Israel for nice kitchenware, pans, pots, grills, spices, baking pans, everything. It's a shop, or better, chain of shops called Spices. They have really nice kitchenware but also some cheeses, oriental cooking supplies, confitures, dried goods and they offer classes on baking, shushi making, pastry, meat and fish dishes with renowned local chefs.

fabric and immagination

On Monday I went with my friend Galit to visit one designer in my town called Limor. My friend told me Limor made beautiful lamp shades with fabric and lace and did a wonderful job re-decorating Moran Frisch's cosmetology clinic. Galit has great taste and is a ceramist and craftist herself so I went.
A beautiful surprise waited for us in Limor's home. She has a room which doubles for studio and little shop, decorated in a very romantic but low-key way. She showed us her pictures, picture frames, stationary design and the lamp shades. I loved everything. It was all so well designed, great finish, beautiful combination of colors and great personal style.
I don't usually go for the romantic look but she managed to make it non-fussy, pretty but not pinky. Something between Provence and "Little House in the Prairie". Limor makes the crafts for fun while her "day job" is freelance interior designer. Galit ordered a large lamp-shade and I had to take Emly out before she broke something. It was very nice just to look though.
Unfortunately she doesn't have a web page. I know that just this little pic won't give you an idea of her work, I'll try to go and photograph her studio if I have some free time (What are you kiddin' me?)

a can of ideas

I'm back from a relaxing weekend and full of ideas. The hotel and room decor were a total deception. Nothing worth a note there.The food was good though ...
Besides a huge "to do " list ( I'm a list person)for my home I have also a list for crafts I'd like to make.
This weekend I wrote some of the ideas in a notebok I made (using paper that was printed on one side only @ work) and I'm really looking forward to have time and start working.
One idea has come from a necessity: my sun glasses didn't come with a strong box to protect them. (Believe me they need a strong box because they stay in my tote and I shlep it everywhere).
The idea: cut an empty beer can (long type) close to the top and sew a zipper to it. I'll try to make it and post a pic as soon as I can.

I'm going to Zikron Yaakov for the weekend but I'm planing to take lots of pics of interesting stuff I see at the hotel so I have to pick camera supplies 'cause mine always seems to surprise me when I most need it.
When I travel I remember how good it is to have a Netvibes account since i don't carry a laptop so I have all my useful info in my netvibes page.
It's great! I can access my favorites list, address book, telefone numbers, calendar, to do list, and literally everything wherever I go without synchros, backups, blue tooths etc. I have all in one place, available anytime.
I used when I was in Brazil (before my computer arrived with the cargo), in Jerusalem two weeks ago and in my office everyday.

fabric for my cushions

The other day I was talking to a friend about the kind of fabric I'm looking for to make new cushions for my living room when she asked me what kind of prints I like. I stopped and tried to bring my ideas into words...
I had trouble making her understand what I meant by "modern floral", "graphic organic" or "abstract flowers". I guess I need to show her instead of explaining but it's tricky to get the kind of stuff I like in Israel.
I'll keep searching, maybe I'm just not looking in the right place...

I love crafts! One of the things I really love is fabric and embroidery.
People seem to be making really nice stuff using old techniques of embroidering.
One of the latest things I made was a label for my daughter's backpack for kindengarden (pics above). I did it with cross stitch and used some patches to embelish. The name is in Hebrew...

I reeeally need to do some work in my kitchen.
I've moved to this apartment in December 2001 and done some decoration there slowly due to money and time restrictions.
I live in Israel, BTW, in a small town caleed Gedera.
We moved to Rio in 2005 and were there for 2 years and since we returned I've been quite unhappy that I can never finish my home decor or at least bring it to a more " me" feel.
The room that bothers me the most is the kitchen. It's begging for some paint and more storage I guess that's because this room gets worn before the rest of the house since we use it every day and very intensely, if you know what I mean.
Here is what I have in mind for the kitchen:
Paint one wall in bright orange, move the stove and put the butcher unit under the window. I'd like to buy two storage units (Grimle) from Ikea (see pics)and I'll put them against a yellow wall . What do you think?
I think I need also a small wall monted unit oved the Micro-wave to make a coffee station...I'll look for something nice... I also need to prepare a color pallete for the kitchen...

Out of my mind

I really must be out of my mind. I work full time, run my home and raise a 2 y-o girl and still I wanted to start a blog. When will I have time for this? Anyway, I went back to Blogger and opened a new account ( the first time I tried bloggin' was in 2005, didn't last long).
I've been browsing lots of blogs lately and I felt like having one of my own again.
My old passion for crafts and decorating is being fueled up by great blogs from other people, Etsy and Dawanda. I always did my crafts, it never stopped but looking at other peoples ideas is great, it gives you inspiration.
In order to document and maybe share these inspirations I'll post everything I like and make here.
